چکیده
Abstract Introduction Sleep disturbance from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) impairs overnight memory processing. This may be mediated by changes to slow wave (SWS) as less activity (SWA) is associated with worse spatial and declarative memory. We developed a within-subjects model of SWS-specific CPAP-withdrawal create 3 polysomnologically (PSG)-verified conditions 1) stable-SWS on CPAP, 2) SWS-fragmentation intermittent hypoxemia (OSAsws), 3) reduced (OSAsws+O2). Using these conditions, we sought dissociate effects SWS disruption navigational Methods included 33 patients (7 female, average age 54yrs) moderate-to-severe OSA (AHI4%>20/hr) who were CPAP-treatment adherent. During each PSG visit, they explored one three 3D maze environments, performing timed trials before after randomized counterbalanced [1)CPAP, 2)OSASWS & 3)OSASWS+O2]. %SWS, severity during SWS, frontal SWA(0.5-4 Hz), change in completion times compared according condition using Friedman Rank Sum Conover’s tests. The relationship between SWA performance was tested Pearson correlation coefficient. Results %SWS significantly greater CPAP (CPAP=17.2%, OSAsws=13.3%, OSAsws+O2=13.8%, p< 0.02). Apnea hypopnea index (AHI3A) (CPAP=0/hr, OSAsws=24.4/hr, OSAsws+O2=19.3/hr, 0.00001). Hypoxic burden the OSAsws+O2 vs OSAsws (23 %min/hr 37 %min/hr, p < 0.001). No significant differences observed for or times. When including all visits, better improvements (R=0.28,p< 0.01) which approached significance isolation (R=0.33,p=0.068). Conclusion resulted recurrence mild SWS; supplemental oxygen hypoxic burden, but did not differ without. There was, however, an overall positive performance. These observations suggest that effect navigation hypoxia SWA. Support (if any) R01AG056682, AASM Focused Project Award.

Nitric oxide (NO) is thought to be involved in spatial learning and memory in several brain areas such as hippocampus. This study examined the effects of post-training intrahippocampal microinjections of 1400W as a selective iNOS inhibitor on spatial memory, in anesthetized and non-anesthetized situations in rats. In the present work, 4-day training trials of animals were conducted. Spatial mem...
متن کاملCPAP versus oxygen in obstructive sleep apnea.
BACKGROUND Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with hypertension, inflammation, and increased cardiovascular risk. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) reduces blood pressure, but adherence is often suboptimal, and the benefit beyond management of conventional risk factors is uncertain. Since intermittent hypoxemia may underlie cardiovascular sequelae of sleep apnea, we evaluated the ef...

N asal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the primary treatment for symptomatic patients with obstructive sleep apnoeahypopnoea (OSAH). The best method for determining the optimal CPAP pressure is an ongoing subject of scrutiny.
